In a previous post I talked about my need to make photographs and I find my iPhone (SE 2ndGen), although old now and small by iPhone standards, does a good enough job for me. The camera is a no-nonsense affair - no zoom or macro etc, but ideal for travelling light and making ‘visual notes’ that I may follow up later with a digital or film camera.
I prefer shooting in black and white mode for most images. Walking around like this with my phone handy helps me to ‘see’ potential future photographs and locations far better than my memory can. It’s like a practice run I suppose, but sometimes the results become more than visual notes and occasionally make the grade as photographs in their own right.
I enjoy walking out in the fresh air and more often than not carry a camera (or two) with me but I find the iPhone is quick, inconspicuous and light.
Any camera phone does not replace or make a camera redundant, at least not in my opinion, but it is a very useful addition to any photographers ‘kit bag’.
